VIET NAM TOURISM-CULTURE FESTIVAL IN ANDONG, KOREA 2016

In 2016, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam, in collaboration with the local authority of Andong City and the Andong Festival Tourism Foundation , Korea organized the Viet Nam Tourism - Culture Festival 2016 in the framework of the Andong International Mask Dance Festival. Among the 18 participating art troupes in the event this time, Viet Nam has an honor to be chosen as the representatives foreign troupe to have a welcoming performance at the Opening Ceremony of the Andong International Mask Dance Festival.

The Andong International Mask Dance Festival is held annually in Andong City which is considered the "spiritual culture capital" of Korea. The Organizing Committee belongs to the Andong Festival Tourism Foundation chaired by the Governor of Andong City.

The Festival began in 1997 with an aim of introducing long-lasting traditional and unique cultural features of Korea, mask and mask dance, which are the two kinds of art originated from Andong and have been effectively preserved in this city. Besides, the Festival is also an opportunity for the Korean people to broaden their knowledge in international cultures and arts, at the same time creates a forum for artists and practitioners to exhange.

From 2011, the Festival is recognized as a national representative festival of Korea by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Government of Korea. The event receives dozens of international art troupes and millions of domestic and foreign visitors annually.

Andong authority and the Organizing Committee of the Festival discussed with the Vietnamese side to choose the 1st October 2016 to organize the Viet Nam Day and the Opening Ceremony of the Viet Nam Tourism-Culture Festival in Andong City 2016. At the event, Governor Kwon Young Sae and Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Viet Nam Vuong Duy Bien delivered their remarks in which expressed their wishes to futher enhance the cooperation in the fields of organizing festivals and tourism promotion between the two sides. Governor Kwon Young Sae was impressed by the art performance of Vietnamese art troupe as well as the exhibition on the country and people of Viet Nam at the Festival. He also hoped to receive Viet Nam delegation in next terms of the Festival.

During the time of Fsetival from the 29th September to the 9th October 2016, Viet Nam troupe perform to serve the local people and visitors together with the Korean and other foreign troupes. Besides, the Viet Nam booth introducing tourism and culture experience attracted many guests of the Festival, especially the children from multi-cultural families in Korea to learn the culture, people and tourism destinations of Viet Nam.
