Asia-Pacific Cultural Consultative Conference

On January 11-12, 2022, the Asia-Pacific Regional Consultative Conference on Culture was hosted by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology in collaboration with UNESCO in the form of: online mode. The conference was organized to provide information for the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policy (Mondiacult 2022) which will take place in Mexico on 30 September 2022.

The conference was attended by representatives of leaders of national cultural agencies in the Asia-Pacific region, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations in the region, representatives of academies and organizations. sub-regional and regional socio-professional organizations. The conference was organized to capture national and regional trends, gaps and challenges in cultural policies, and identify important priorities related to cultural policy in the years to come.

On the Vietnamese side, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong representing the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa, Director of the Department of International Cooperation attended the Conference.

Speaking at the opening of the Conference, UNESCO Assistant Director-General Ernesto Ottone emphasized, in the recovery strategy after the Covid-19 pandemic, to implement a roadmap of action in the last decade to realize the Development Goals. Sustainable United Nations, UNESCO is working to engage member states and the international community in formulating and developing policies that address global challenges and identify priorities. now and in the future to shape the cultural sector stronger, more resilient, compatible with public policies and sustainable development prospects.

As the country chairing the regional consultation, Indonesian Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim said that before the challenge and serious impact caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. , the Indonesian government has promptly provided a support package for adaptation programs for artists and art activists, appreciating their efforts in constantly being creative in artistic expression, dealing with with the challenges posed by the pandemic. The Minister affirmed that in order to continue developing, countries need to have drastic preferential cultural policies to protect artists and art activities, ensure the sustainability of heritage, protect and promote the diversity of cultural expressions. Accordingly, he highly appreciated the contribution of countries and related organizations at this forum in order to propose timely and effective policies and measures to contribute to the success of the Conference. In his speech at the Conference, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong shared that in 2021, Vietnam has successfully organized a National Cultural Conference chaired by Vietnam’s top leaders, giving orientations. strategic importance to “revitalize and develop the country’s culture”, arouse the aspirations of the whole nation, develop a prosperous and happy country, putting people at the center of development. The Deputy Minister emphasized Vietnam’s point of view that promoting diversity and creativity in culture is the key, creating a strong driving force for sustainable development not only in economic growth, but also towards living standards. more perfect intellectually, emotionally, morally and in solidarity. On this occasion, Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong proposed that countries make joint efforts and cooperate in implementing a number of tasks, including: establishing and orienting the development of digital culture to create opportunities and leverage for the Asia-Pacific region. Asia-Pacific breakthrough together; cooperate to form and connect a network of creative hubs in livable cities, in which culture, art and creativity are the center of development; and strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation after the COVID-19 pandemic, including preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage – a development resource for future generations, ensuring cultural diversity. in the region and the world.

At the forum, countries in the region shared trends and priorities in their national cultural policies, discussed and proposed with UNESCO on policies and measures to address challenges. as well as taking advantage of new cultural opportunities in the future, working together towards the goals of the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policy – Mondiacult 2022.

Mondiacult 2022 will be run by the Director General of UNESCO and hosted by the Government of Mexico from September 28 to 30, 2022. Forty years after the first Mondiacult World Conference on Cultural Policy was held in Mexico City. (Mexico) in 1982, and 24 years after the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policy for Development held in Stockholm (Sweden) in 1998, Mondiacult 2022 was organized with the aim of creating an dynamism. A force for global policy dialogue on culture for sustainable development, with special focus on UNESCO to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge, and to encourage cooperation among countries, is one of the mandates of UNESCO.
